Volunteer Teaching Programme — Overview
Volunteer to Teach Language in a Local City School
You don't need to be a professional teacher to make a real difference helping students learn your native language. Without formal credentials, teaching experience, or even a word of Lao, you can still be a genuine asset to a local school — working under the guidance and support of local teachers throughout your placement.
Who Can Volunteer
Our volunteer teaching programme is open to everyone. Whether you're on an extended holiday, a semester break, taking time off from your regular job, or retired and looking for a meaningful way to travel, this is a great fit. All you need is fluency in spoken English, French, Japanese or Chinese.
Why Native Speakers Make a Difference
Local teachers are highly skilled in teaching the structural and grammatical aspects of language, but often welcome extra support with pronunciation and conversational confidence. Practical conversation classes led by a native-speaking volunteer give students a real confidence boost — and a rare chance to practise with someone who speaks the language naturally.
Students understand that language skills can open doors to better jobs and a better future. Even a short visit can encourage and inspire them. Each school runs its own schedule and curriculum, but volunteers are welcome to bring their own teaching materials — even family photos or postcards from home make for great conversation starters.
When to Volunteer
Lao schools generally take their main academic break over the summer months, from around June to August. Term dates and shorter breaks vary between schools, so we'll work with you to confirm the best timing once you're ready to volunteer — flexibility means we can usually accommodate your visit whenever you're able to come.

A standard police background check from your home country — we can guide you through this process
Giving Back
