Our expertise and local contacts allow us to concentrate specifically on the Luang Prabang area. Luang Prabang is a beautiful, ancient capital in northern Laos. The city of the same name served as the capital of the Lan Xang Kingdom — meaning the "Kingdom of a Million Elephants" — from the 14th to the 18th centuries. It has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995, recognised for its unique architectural, religious and cultural heritage: a blend of rural and urban development shaped over several centuries, including French colonial influences during the 19th and 20th centuries. Unlike Vientiane, the modern capital, Luang Prabang enjoys a cooler climate and none of the air pollution or traffic congestion associated with larger cities. As the ancient royal capital of the north, Luang Prabang carries a depth of cultural history that sets it apart from the more contemporary business centre of Vientiane. The Old Town, at the heart of the city, sits on a peninsula between the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers, dotted with stunning temples and historic sites.
