Experience Laos Through Local Eyes
About Me.
Day 3 - Discover a Natural Farming garden where the farmer lives in harmony with nature. Natural farming is the original way of farming with a minimum of human intervention allowing nature to do much of the work. This organic system garden has been cultivated by a villager for over 20 years and offers many seasonal fruits, vegetables and herbs. You will be able to harvest while respecting nature and discover the rich taste of those fresh fruit directly from this nature’s garden. This moment will allow you to catch an insight into this Thai farmer’s daily work life. Afterward, spend an evening with the locals from the village with whom you can share an authentic local meal giving you an insight into part of their daily routine.
Day 4 - Discover the hill-tribes village. This allows you not only familiarizing but also observing, hence to gain insight into the way of the locals’ life. Then meet and greet the last elephant folk doctor of the region who takes care of these docile animals’ health with plants grown by nature. Visit his elephant clinic and gain more insight about the elephants’ health from this caretaker’s work. Moreover, you will help him collect some herbs from the forest then prepare medicaments and supplements for the elephants they can no longer access by roaming through the forests.
Day 5 – Capture a glimpse of the mahout’s life. Step into their shoes for a moment. Gain a new experience discovering the amazing giant, the elephant. Learn about the food elephants eat. Collect them from the forest and feed the elephants by your-self. Take care of one of these giant animals by walking them in the forest, bathing them in the nearby river; do anything just like the local mahouts. Before returning to the city you can help replant some of the food and herbs for the elephant in the surrounding forest leaving behind a meaningful contribution.
Day 6 – Wake up early for getting to see the impressive moment of the sunrise on the top of the mountain. The scenery of the city of Chiang Mai from the famous Doi Suthep temple is waiting for you. Seeing the locals offer their alms, the giving, to the Buddhist monks. Joining that ritual could be one of the very memorable moments of your trip. Later, spend the time at one of the morning markets. Explore and see the rich selection of goods the morning market offers to the people. What kind of food do people have for their breakfast? Let’s find out and taste them too!
In the afternoon, gain some insight into the Thai cuisine by having an authentic Thai cooking course moment. Discover some of the numerous Thai spices and herbs used in the worldwide appreciated Thai cuisine. Under guidance you can have a go and cook one of the Thai specialties by your own.
